My July 4th In New York City: 2018

Happy 4th of July! I hope you’re all eating BBQ, sipping on sangria, and enjoying family and friends..wherever you are. This year I’m enjoying my July 4th right here in NYC. Not only I’m I staying in New York, but I’m staying literally in the city. I will not be heading out to the beach, or any of the major parks. The better part of my day will probably be spent indoors, just relaxing.

I’m also hoping to see the fireworks from one of the taller buildings in my neighborhood. This is definitely one of the perks of staying local during the July 4th holiday in NYC. If you can get access to one of the taller buildings near the East River, this will almost guarantee you a great view of the beautiful Macys fireworks show, all while avoiding the huge crowds in the various viewing locations in the city. Thats a major win.

When I was young, in my late teens and early twenties, I loved to hang out with friends that lived in apartments. That usual meant that there was a fire escape attached to it. It was the coolest thing, literally and figuratively, to hang out there. Our music  would spill over from the apartment, or someones boombox would fill the streets with the latest hits. We’d also bring food and beverages with us onto the escape. It was like a super small rooftop lounge..lol. So I thought, oh how much fun it would be if summer days still included impromptu fire escape get togethers.

In the meantime I’ll just dream of the fun I had growing up in NYC, visiting my friends in the city, and hanging out on their fire escape. I wouldn’t pack four to six people on one..lol, like we did then, but I do look forward to a solo retreat on one every now and then. I hope you guys have an amazing 4th of July, and may every one of your days be filled with fireworks.
