When it comes down to taking great photos, there’s more to it than pretty clothes and gorgeous makeup. A cool looking backdrop isn’t enough either. Although these things are key components, there are a few other things that will help you nail that shot every time. Now I must say that I’m no professional, not yet anyway..lol, but I now get shots that I love without taking a million photos. With a little practice you’ll be on your way to producing photos that you’ll love for your blog, social media or campaigns, in a fraction of the time. That means less editing and sorting through photos, and more time to plan your next fab photo shoot. Now let’s get into these 5 tips.
1. Preparation plays a big role in how your pictures will turn out. First and foremost please make a point to wear clothes that you’re comfortable in. The last thing you want during your shoot is to be distracted by what you’re wearing. This could happen when we’re wearing something way out of our comfort zone, as well as an ill fitting garment. When it comes to experimenting with daring looks, take baby steps until you’re confident with doing the most.
2. Secondly, do a practice run in your home wearing your outfit and the hairstyle you’re pairing it with, allowing yourself the opportunity to see how it all comes together. Its also the perfect time to tweak the look, like changing the shoe, or accessory.
3. The mirror is your friend. Practice practice practice. Finding your angles is the absolute best thing you can do to create great photos of yourself. Don’t think of each move as a pose..never pose. Focus on what you might be feeling at the moment. Different outfits and settings will evoke unique expressions. Although you’re not posing, its still important to practice sitting, standing, evening lying on the floor. Find your angles in each position. Always remember just a slight lifting of the head or tilting of the shoulders can turn an okay image into one that’s amazing.
4. Finding a comfort zone is front of the camera is different for everyone, but like I said earlier preparing will go a long way towards putting you at ease. Go into the process, even if you’re taking a selfie, with your mindset to enjoy it. Don’t focus so much on how you look, but more on channeling a good feeling. What helps me the most is remembering that I only need one or a few good shots, and I have everything I need to come away with that..and more. I’m sure you will also.
5. Finally and most importantly, remember this is your story that’s being told, so don’t try to play someone else but yourself.. that’s your super power in front of the camera. The easiest way to sum it up is to look in the mirror, and identify how you want to communicate. This is your time to shine, and express what’s special about you. Lights..camera..action!

Love your photos because they all come out great. You are a natural in front of the camera. I love these tips, especially #3 and #5! I’m great with prepping and most recently learned to just go with the flow and make it easy when it comes to the location. Great post!
