Orchard Beach, Summer, New York City, Swimwear

I love a good beach day. Sun, sand , water and lounging with my favorite magazine..what more could a girl ask for. In the past I’ve traveled out of the country, just to run my toes through the sand on a specific beach. Back in 2017 I found myself jetting over to Curacao, just to do that. They have some of the most beautiful, intimate beaches ever.

What most people might not know is, that New York City actually has some pretty cool beaches. I mean you won’t find White sand and crystal clear water, but what you will find is a variety of beaches in different boroughs. There’s boardwalks, delicious eats, entertainment, and even the iconic Coney Island Amusement Park In Brooklyn…adjacent to its beach.

Recently I spent a lovely day at Orchard Beach, in the Bronx. I arrived super early, so I got to enjoy the view , and get a little quiet time in, before the shore got over populated with people. Of course I did some people watching, and read a bit in between naps. Orchard beach has an awesome presence. Its been called the French Riviera of NY beaches..lol!

When planning my beach days. I usually  bring a variety of healthy snacks, sometimes lunch, and plenty of  water. On occasion I’ll bring along a good bottle of Rosé or some of my homemade sangria..yums! So I’m always equipped with plenty of food to sustain myself, and company. But the reality is, a lot of what I bring gets toted right back home. This day I didn’t bring much, because my plan was to head over to City Island for a bite. City Island is literally a stones throw away from the beach, and its actually a small island, that’s jam packed with mostly seafood eateries, but there are other great options at places like Arties Steak & Seafood, Ohana Japanese Hibachi Seafood & Steakhouse Portofina, and The Black Whale. Also, if you want some classic good ice cream, Lickety Split  is your place.

If you ever find yourself spending the day at Orchard Beach, bring food for the day, or head over to City Island for some eats. This beach is my absolute favorite in NYC, but the grub options are very limited…I guess you can’t have it all. A couple of NYC beaches have been totally revamped, making them an awesome place to hang out alone, or with friends and family. If you live in NYC, or are just visiting, I’ve linked below, a couple of my favorites within the 5 boroughs.

Brooklyn

Coney Island Beach and Amusement Park : Although Coney Island Beach isn’t my fave for ambience, it’s definitely one of my faves for eating, drinking and hanging out with friends. Check out Dona Zita , its a solid little Mexican spot across the street from Luna Park, that serves great tacos, and drinks…that won’t break the bank.

Queens

Rockaway Beach :  A cool overall beach to hit up. There’s plenty to do, and eat there. Check out NyEater.com for the best places to grab a bite at, or near the beach.

Fort Tilden/Breezy Point : An intimate, secluded little beach that I love. Bring your own food, as there are no concession stands. Also, there aren’t any lifeguards on duty, so swim at your own risk.

So grab yourself a swim suit, cooler, lounge chair and head out to the sand..in NYC, or wherever you live. Enjoy all of summer 2018!
