I’ve been a New Yorker all my life, a bonafide city girl for sure. Living anywhere else, on a permanent basis, just isn’t an option. I mean I’ve traveled to places that caught my fancy, like the time I crossed the pond over to London. I really could see myself living there three – six months out of the year…in the future. That’s how much I loved the place, but nothing compares to NYC.

Deep down at my core though, this city girl is really a country girl at heart. All my life I’ve felt this way, from the time that I spent summers in the south as a child..all the way to now. It was really confirmed by the silliest thing the other day. I was feeling a bit down and out about the few extra pounds (ok, a little more than a few..lol) that I gained ever since my knees have been rebelling against me. That situation caused my exercise routine to come to a grinding halt..hence the weight gain.

While all this chatter is going on in my head about how I look, a little voice (that chick in me who always prevails) said ” Gurl, if you were down south, eating all that delicious food, and hanging out in the garden and fields, you wouldn’t even think about a few extra pounds. You would be so relaxed, enjoying the fresh air, the friendly people, and the slower pace”.

Its something about being in the south that makes me way less vain. I don’t know what it is, but I like it. I mean honestly, I’ll always want to be healthy. It’s just great not to obsess over every little change in my body..to remember that I’m fabulous at any size.

As long as I remember that the reason why I’m always conscious about my weight is because of health reasons, not aesthetics..then I’m good. City girl or country girl, I think I’m some sort of a hybrid..lol! It doesn’t matter where you plant me, as long as there’s good food, good people, and wifi of course..I’m happy.
